W.C. Reid Center Renovation

Green Opportunities offices are housed in the historic W.C Reid Center which has been an enduring Southside landmark since its construction in 1927 as the segregation era Livingston Street School.  GO together with the Housing Authority for the City of Asheville (HACA) and other community partners is in the process of reviving this important building that was once considered for demolition.  With 4.3 million dollars of funding from a HUD grant the Reid Center is being transformed into a Green Jobs Training Center.  GO and HACA have taken on the shared responsibility of managing the renovation of the Reid Center Renovation which started in the summer of 2012.

Green Opportunities hopes to expand and elaborate on its services already provided to the surrounding community with the renovation of the new center, by adding more advanced classroom space and well equipped training rooms to provide local residence and the surrounding communities the best possible learning environment.

GO has committed to training and employing underserved local Section 3 residents to work with contractors on the renovation of the center.  This will serve to elevate and empower local residents while simultaneously breathing new life into this historically significant Southside landmark.
